Small businesses in NJ, DE, OH, IL and MO can immediately begin the process of registering for health insurance on HealthCare.gov for coverage beginning January 2015. This surprise announcement of an early “soft opening” of the small business health insurance exchange follows on the heels of Consumer Reports’ consumer advisory reported in The Washington Times that users should wait until late November to give programmers time to fix the web site’s ongoing bugs. The initial task of setting up a small business account on Healthcare.gov is the one task that a professional adviser can NOT do on behalf of a client per CMS rules. After the account is set up the professional can upload the employee roster and other details. I just completed the CMS individual and SHOP training courses for enrollment advisers last week.
