Early today I responded to an email from a professional woman who expressed disbelief that her new insurance would cost 10% of her gross income. I explained that was the target intended by the law and that many clients found the total cost, including deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses to be higher. But this is not what she wants to hear. This is the “Affordable” Care Act and coverage is supposed to be affordable. Then a few hours later I took a call from a claim processor who explained how bad the claim service was with one insurer. I repeatedly explained that as a writer for exchange Web sites, I have no control or influence over the claim process but again, this was not what the consumer wants to hear. I feel like this is just the tip of the iceberg as reality sets in for consumers who are now obligated by law to buy into the system with all its flaws next year.
