I do not know where the false perception comes from but http://www.freedombenefits.net health insurance exchange support services have noticed a sharp increase in the number of users who ask if a physical exam is required to get health insurance. The answer is NO, plain and simple. None of the health insurance plans on any online exchange require a physical exam.

The false perception may linger from the past when life insurance companies required a physical exam. Now all online life insurance, to our knowledge, including Smart Term Life Insurance (https://smartlifeinsurance.1clickcoverage.com/start.aspx?c=tnovak)
is underwritten entirely based on an electronic application. No physical exam is required.

Going even further back into the 1990s some health insurance companies like Celtic Insurance (http://www.celticenrollment.com) required a physical exam in certain circumstances. This is no longer the practice today.

Finally, it is worth noting that some large group insurance companies (not those offered through an online health insurance exchange) have begun administering programs developed by employers to cut the cost of employee health care. Some of these now required physical exams of blood tests in order to get the best rate. Insurance is still available without an exam but the employee will pay more for the coverage.
